Canton grounds out 42-6 win over WayneWAYNE - The Canton High School football team focused on rushing the ball harder and turned a 14-6 lead into a 42-6 rout of Wayne Memorial on Friday. The Chiefs (4-0, 2-0 Western Lakes Activities Association) had a season-high 52 rushing attempts for 354 yards. That helped them score 28 second-half points. "The kids responded well. We needed that," Canton coach Tim Baechler said. Senior Julian Smith ran for a season-high 122 yards and scored two touchdowns on 12 carries. Chuck Schumacher ran for two scores and 80 yards. Jeff Hudson led the defense with seven tackles and a 22-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
