John Glenn had a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter behind two touchdowns by Davis.
In the second quarter, Canton halfback Reggie Joyner helped mount a comeback, scoring a 3-yard touchdown to bring the Chiefs within eight points at the half, 14-6. In the second half, Canton showed signs of rejuvenation, as the defense intercepted a pass from John Glenn quarterback Brian Ceckiewicz. On the next play, Chiefs quarterback Dave Nicoloff threw a touchdown pass that made the score 14-12. Canton capped off the drive with the two-point conversion to tie the score at 14.
After that drive, John Glenn's offense dominated the game, as tailbacks Matt Smitherman and Davis began to break down Canton's defense. Each ran for a touchdown, and they helped John Glenn score 20 unanswered points and take a 34-14 lead with under 9:00 left in the fourth quarter.
Later in the fourth, Joyner tried to spur his team with a touchdown run, but Canton's hopes quickly faded, as Davis finished the scoring spurt by John Glenn with an interception, followed by a 91-yard touchdown run with less than three minutes left in the game.
John Glenn Coach Chuck Gordon was proud of the seniors who stepped up in the game.
"You won't be able to have a good team if you don't get plays from your seniors and leader," Gordon said. "A lot of people contributed and it was a team effort."
Davis finished with four touchdowns, while quarterback Brian Ceckiewicz went 4-for-8 for 79 yards and a touchdown.
Joyner had two touchdowns and Nicoloff went 5-for-13 with 120 yards and one touchdown.
Davis said after the game this showing was not the end of the things the team would do.
"It's just the start," Davis said. "We are going all the way."
